Vince Lahey was born in New York City and raised in Lee, Massachusetts. He attended the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1991 with a degree in Psychology and English. He moved to Aspen in 1994.
In 1997, Vince saw a contest advertised in the Aspen Daily News challenging people to write children's stories that incorporate Aspen history into the tale. Vince wrote the monkey story and submitted it, never to hear another word about the contest. He wonders now if the contest ever really existed! The tale he had written was pure fantasy - or so he thought!
In 1998 the Winter Olympics were held in Nagano, Japan, and living in that town right beside the ski mountain is a troupe of furry mountain monkeys! http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/snow-monkeys-of-jigokudani.html It seems that by writing the story, the monkeys actually came to be!
Today, Vince lives in Aspen with his wife Jessica and their daughter Ella. As of this writing a baby boy is on the way.
Vince is an avid skier. He has won the Colorado Extreme Skiing Championships twice and coaches the Big Mountain Team for the Aspen Valley Ski Club http://www.teamavsc.com/programs/Freestyle.cfm#level1.
